Reducing cost of EDI
Scenario - Some companies use a VAN (Value Added Network) connection to transmit their EDI data to and fro their customers. In the past, this used to be the only viable option as ISDN was not widely available or simply too expensive to implement.
Problem – High-volume users often pay a substantial amount to their VAN provider simply because they are not aware of lower cost solutions.
Solution – The implementation of Odette'95, an OFTP (Odette File Transfer Protocol) direct point-to-point product, could help reducing the cost caused by the peak EDI traffic. After the initial investment, a running cost is left of an annual £400 for the ISDN line rental plus the telephone charges depending on the connection time. (National ISDN calls are charged the same as national telephone calls).
Conclusion – Depending on the requirement and the traffic volume the deployment of Odette'95 could bring a swift return of investment and will ensure long time savings.
